Beach Run Fundraiser for Aussie Flood Victims

DEL MAR- On the 27th of February there is going to be a great event, Mates Helping Mates, to help raise money for the victims of the flooding in Australia which, with the cyclone that just hit, is still taking it’s toll.

According to a Rueter’s article, once this storm season is done, the economic impact on the country will be between 10 and 20 billion dollars making it the most expensive natural disaster in Australia’s history.

More importantly is the human toll with number varying between 14-20 dead, over 100 persons missing and more than 40000 homes and buildings effected.

Inspired by professional triathlete Kate Major and friends, Mates Helping Mates was  born. The event, taking place at Del Mar’s Powerhouse Park is featuring a kid’s 1 mile beach run as well as a 5k beach run followed by a good ol’ down under sausage sizzle(read BBQ). With the support of over 20 tri related business there is going to be an amazing raffle and silent auction. Businesses such as Oakley, Xterra, Willier, Saucony, local stores Movin’ Shoes and Nytro, Clif, Timex, Beaker Concepts, yours truly TIBhomesales, LAVA Magazine, Betty Designs, One day Signs Encinitas and so many more are making this a truly amazing event. The Triathlon Club of San Diego is also stepping huge with volunteers and the use of their equipment.
